Third Street Yoga and School focuses on providing classes, workshops, special events and services that center around a total yogic lifestyle.

About Our Students:
The students are very diverse and come from every walk of life. Some come primarily for fitness, others come to relieve tension and reduce stress. Some are very serious yoga students who are working on self-awareness.
What to Wear
Be comfortable! Wear clothes that are non-restrictive. Shoes are removed at the door!
What to Bring
Schoolhouse and the Himalayan Institute provide limited number of blocks, straps, mats and blankets. For the Rosslyn class, please bring your own props.
Each student, for sanitary reasons should bring their own mat.
Refrain from wearing fragrances.
Turn cell phones off.
Leave your worries at the door!
Joanne VandenHengel teaches at many locations in the Pittsburgh area including the Himalayan Institute of Pittsburgh and Schoolhouse Yoga. She also teaches a community class at Rosslyn Community Center as well as classes for many businesses in the area.
VandenHengel has practiced yoga and meditation for over twenty years and has been teaching Yoga for ten years in and around the Pittsburgh area, receiving her training and certification from the Himalayan Institute. She has studied with Judith Lasiter, Sandra Anderson, Jaimie Stover Schmidtt, Barbara Benaugh, Cyndi Liee and Rodney Yee.
Certifications include yoga teacher certification, a certified Yoga Alliance 200 hours yoga teacher training program , pre and post natal and senior yoga training and Reiki Level 1 &2. She is pursuing advanced certification hours in yoga therapeutic techniques. She can be accessed at http://www.3rdstreetyoga.com.
Bringing over thirty years of teaching in the public school systems to her craft, VandenHengel offers a comprehensive Yoga Alliance certified Yoga Teacher Training program. The program offers aspiring yoga teachers the opportunity to receive instruction and certification in the Yogic Arts. Class sizes are small to allow personal attention, hands-on experience and the opportunity for each potential teacher the experience of developing their own unique techniques, grounded in good Yogic theory, practice and philosophy. The option of student teacher interning with an accredited teacher will be recognized as additional class hours.
YOGA: The Basics and Beyond
An ongoing class for those ready to develop familiarity within the postures and move into a flowing sequence. Participants will become aware of abilities and limitations in order to self monitor and adjust to modifications. Sun Salutation included. Final sequences adjusted to ability. Introduces inversions.
Vinyasa Flow-All Levels
This class is intended for any student familiar with basic yoga postures and the sun salute series. In this vinyasa style class, sail through a flow of sun salutations while working with the breath to build body strength, encourage athletic flexibility, and quiet the mind. Class will challenge all levels with modifications to simplify or to advance postures offered while we work through balancing, standing, arms balances, inversions, and salutes. The perfect class for the busy minded athlete, those looking for deep muscle strength, or those who enjoy a challenging and playful practice!
Private Sessions/Semi Private/Small Groups:
Sliding Scale: $50 per hour one person, $15 per hour each additional person.
